God is Good

“For God So loved the world that he Gave his one and only son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his son in to the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.” John 3:16&17. NIV

“For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans’ 6:23. NIV

These passages speak of the love God has for everyone. He soooo loves us not just when we are good or do what he wants. But everyone and all the time. He does not want anyone ever to perish. He wants to save the whole world. He gave us his one and only son to be born just so he would be condemned to die a horrible humiliating death so nobody else would ever have to die.

That is love. He is a perfect and holy God who can not dwell among sin. They made a way for us to live with them in paradise forever. But they also gave us free will to choose what we want. They have made it very clear what they want. They have given us their words written out for all to discover.

Even if something is Gods will, and it is the very best thing for us, he will not force it on us. It is totally our free will to decide on our own. By doing nothing and making no decision we have decided the answer is no. “I do not want your gift God.” Even though saying yes has made me happier than I can ever imagine. At one time in my life I said yes.

They have given us a gift. Just like every gift you have ever been given it is free. You have to do nothing but accept it. It takes faith to accept it because it is not something we can see or feel. We have to believe we have it. With that gift comes the promise of their help. This is not all us but we have help.

Once we believe we need to practice what we believe and turn away from sin. We are no longer a slave to sin and the way to death but are made new. Many people choose to believe the parts of the Bible that they like. It is historically accurate and has been proven to be true. If it is true it is to be believed. All of it.

If we believe all the good things like how much God knows us and loves us. Knowing our every thought and always wanting what is best for us. Then we ought to believe when he tells us what not to do. Sin is not just wrong it is not good for us if it brings our eternal death. He has warned us time and time again. But this is one thing he doesn’t have control over.

We do though. So nobody can say that a righteous God would not send someone to hell. He doesn’t. We do by not believing and obeying. We have the final say over our actions. We can use any excuse we want but not doing his will puts it on us not him. He is a very loving and just God.

He tells us in his word how to be blessed. He tells us how to live a full and abundant life. How to have fullness of joy. Bubbling over in our lives. He wants what every good father wants for his children. The best. Every good parent will do everything they can to see their children happy, healthy, and safe. They will discipline them and at times say no if what they want is not best for them.

They don’t serve ice cream for breakfast and candy for lunch. If we ate like that we wouldn’t live to see our teens. Running free in the streets is not allowed because it’s not safe. We expect those things even though eating our veggies is a drag we want to be healthy. So we do things we dislike.

Shouldn’t we be glad to do things that bring joy, happiness, and blessings. We want a good happy life? Right.

How to Have the Wow of Jesus in 2019

I was just at lunch and the radio was on while I waited. A song came on by Diamond Rio, “What a Beautiful mess”. As I listened to the words I thought of my relationship with Christ and how exciting it has become. I also got a book for Christmas that says it all. “The Secret Place of Joy,” by Lindell Cooley. They describe the joy I have found and long to share with everyone.

As we begin another new year I encourage you to seek for more that God has for you in your life. The more I get the more addicted I become. It’s so exciting that I just want more. It is so true that the majority of Christians just know about God and try to do the right thing religiously but it’s hard. Very few know that ‘Wow’ available to us.

“I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete.” John 15:11 NIV

“Seek the Lord while he may be found; call on him while he is near.” Isaiah 55:6 NIV

“…you do not have because you do not ask.” James 4:2 NIV

We have to seek to find it. God will not push on us anything. Even if it is the best thing ever he will wait on us. I spent 50 years of my life living a mediocre Christian life and trying to do it on my own. After my stroke I wanted to know what the reason I was alive for and began reading about God intensively.

I had made so many mistakes, what was I doing wrong. A wonderful Christian woman I knew modeled a dynamic Christian life that I greatly admired. I sought to find out more. She talked about her ‘relationship ‘ so passionately. So in 2013 I vowed to have that kind of relationship too.

To have a good relationship with anyone you need to talk with them and learn more about them. So, I began reading my Bible everyday and prayed about everything. The more I prayed the more I saw prayers answered. This just boosted my faith even more. I began listening to praise music.

One day God opened my eyes, I was sitting in a music program where he sang Christian songs, all of a sudden the words jumped out to my spirit and I felt every word. I began weeping with so much joy. I will never forget that day. I had been praying earnestly for more of God and he came through.

Listening to praise music really boosted my spirit. I stopped watching tv, listening to other music, I watched Christian movies, read Christian books, devotionals, and even found Christian games for my iPad. Not because any of these things are wrong. That may not be for everyone. Just because they brought even more joy.

I began being grateful. I started thanking God for everything. A hot cup of coffee, a beautiful day, friends, a great word on my game words for friends. The word says to pray without ceasing. That was just what I was doing. I begin every morning by talking to God about everything and everyone in my life and all day long I said thank you and whatever was on my mind. Just like a best friend, which he is.

Every good a perfect gift comes from God. The more we ask for the more he gives.

Another important point is our attitude. You can dwell on the one negative thing in your day or spend time being grateful for all the good things in your life.

I have many hard things to face ever since my stroke. My body is far from perfect. I need help with everything. I can’t walk or even stand. My body does what it wants and I don’t have a lot of control anymore. But when I am up in my chair I am fairly independent.

Living in a nursing home has been a real adjustment for me to overcome. I’m not the free independent young gal that I once was but I can always find plenty of positives to dwell on. The more I dwell on them the more joyful I become. It may take me 15 minutes to do something simple but once I’m done I have so much satisfaction in doing it myself.

Going out to church has been so good for me. I have met so many good people that really have enriched my life. No one can have too many friends especially when they are family of God members. My church is online so even if I can’t go I never miss excellent words of truth. But being right among everyone is awesome.

I started tithing a few years back and trying to do all God asks of us. The more I give the more I get a high out of it. I wish I had more to give. It really is better to give than to receive . It feels so good even tips at restaurants. I love to bless others however I can. Just sharing a smile or a hug can be so rewarding. Filling others needs when I can makes me smile.

This coming year enjoy all that God has for you! Start the year with a positive attitude and see all that you can have come to you. Enjoy fully.

Recently I had trouble with my roommate watching tv all day very loudly. It was fine if I just went and sat outside where it was quiet. It finally got louder and louder and my blood pressure was going up. She was watching even at night now. I prayed for God to solve my dilemma. I approached my social worker with my problem just before Thanksgiving. She immediately went to work to solve the problem.

I have learned that worrying does not help. Once I put it in God’s hands he knows what is best so just let him work. I went about my day. A couple hours later they offered me my own private room all to myself. Thinking I couldn’t afford it I was hesitant.

They were offering it at the same cost I had been paying. I was so overwhelmed but all I could say was sure. I went to lunch and then went out back to relax in quiet. Moves can take time so when I came back in a couple hours later I went to my old room but it was stripped bare. They had moved everything.

They came in a little later and rearranged the furniture to my plans. Just how it would work best for me. I just sat there and felt so blessed. I even kept a small lamp on at night so I could see around my new room. I really did not feel that I deserved this. I would have been happy if she just stopped watching evenings so I could sleep. I hadn’t really asked to move.

The next few days I felt so thankful and it just seemed unreal but here I was enjoying the peace and quiet. It even has a private patio I sat out on in the sun one day.

It was great.

‘Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning.   James 1:17

I did not do anything to earn God’s favor. I did just as he tells us I asked, and left it in his hands. Each and every day I see God working out things in my life and I feel so blessed. Who am I that I deserve such special treatment? I am just one of the millions

of his children.

That’s just it I am his.  I am special to him. Not something I did for him. He gave his son to die for everyone. Anyone can have this favor. It’s a free gift.

I was called and I accepted that gift. I did not have to do anything to earn it. I do want all he has for my life because it is good. Everyday I want to do all I can to let others know about this great gift. I am not preaching to people. It’s more like bragging about something I have that you can have too.

I find it so saddening when I hear someone talking about how there is no God. If they only knew.

“Give praise to the Lord, praise his name; make known among the nations what he has done. Sing to him, sing praise to him; tell of all his wonderful acts. Glory in his name; let the hearts of those who seek the Lord rejoice.”  1 Chronicles 16:8-10. NIV

David knew one thing was very important. Praise! He set up certain people to just be praisers. Leading the armies of David, singing in the temples and in the streets. Wherever they went the name of the Lord was to be praised. They were to tell of his excellent greatness to everyone.

We were created to praise. We are at are best and life is at its best when we are praising our creator. He is so worthy of all our praise. Sunday mornings I have a front row seat for the worship service. I sit up front next to the stage during church. I absolutely love worship time.

The worship leader and the backup singers have so much love and passion in their eyes when they sing. The songs are full of his wonderful love for us. I can’t help but get excited over all he is to me. I hear all of his greatness being proclaimed and it does so much to lift my spirit.

Our times of worship are so fulfilling . It is the best part of my week. Have you been in church lately? It is important to be among other Christians. The time we spend together is so uplifting. I never was one to complain about going to church. I will admit that I didn’t get a lot out of it in my youth, but now that I have a good relationship with God I can’t get enough.

He is my best friend so when I sing praises I am feeling such love and honor for all he does in my life. Bringing praise before the Lord should be a big deal. He has told us to do it . He also blesses us when we are doing his will. I like to be blessed by God.

I love doing something that feels good and getting blessed by doing it.

To Obey

“If you love me, keep my commandments.” John 14:15 NIV

The first and greatest commandment is to love the Lord with all you are. If we truly love him we will show it by our actions. It is said they will know us by our love. Which is the part of us that comes from his spirit living in us. But keeping his commandments takes more work.

Which commandments was he referring to? All of them and there are many. The only way to do this is to read his word and put it to memory. Without knowing the Bible it is hard to know what to keep doing. There are so many. They even give us ways that we will be blessed by doing them.

For instance some are ‘long life’, ‘health’, ‘blessings’, and ‘strong bones’ just to mention a few common ones. These are things that will help us have a long and happy life.Because God is the only one who knows what is really best for us, he has given us the keys not rules to a long and blessed life.

So many people see these as laws or rules we have to keep. What a drag to be a Christian, they say. They see these things through their carnal minds as hindrances to fun. But really they keep us safe, healthy, blessed and happy. We need to be so glad he is on our side. He’s got our back, so to speak.

Well back when Moses was leading the Israelites through the wilderness he gave them many specific commandments. These were harder to follow to the letter. Many of these made no real sense to the people. They were there so the people could realize how holy he is and how we should hold him in great honor.

He also had so many for us to do just out of trust. There was really no way we could keep all of these commandments. We needed a savior and so he sent his one and only son to be the perfect spotless lamb once and for all. I am so glad I live after Christ made the ultimate sacrifice for us. We now live under grace and have it so much easier.

“I have come that you may have life, and have it to the full.” John 10:10

Now when we come to know the truth we have keys to help us have the full and abundant life he has promised us. So enjoy reading his word and following the way to be blessed.

Blessings and Curses

‘I set before you today life and prosperity, death and destruction.’ Deuteronomy 30:15 NIV

God is a loving and just God. He has given us a choice. Blessings, great and awesome or curses, terrible bringing death. When God first made man he gave him knowledge to make up his own mind, His own free will to do whatever he chooses in life.

He wants very much for us to choose life and all the blessings that go along with it. He wants us happy but he loves us so much that he will not force anything on us. Not even good. I was reading in Deuteronomy the other day in chapter 28 and it just jumped off the pages at me.

Blessings and curses. He spelled it out so completely. Everything we need to do for a great blessed life and also everything to end up with death and curses. The choice is ours. The blessings part was fairly simple and straightforward, but on curses he went on and on.

With us always wanting to be sure we our getting our own way we have made a mess of our lives. We are also not very smart. We assume if He wants us to do something even if he lets us decide. There must be strings attached. Nothing could be that simple. Right!

Well after reading his words year after year I am convinced that he is good and really does want to see me happy. I have tasted and tried his ways and I have also lived through rebellion to his ways and I have seen how happy I can be doing life his way. When I did whatever I wanted I really screwed my life up. He still forgave me and let me start all over.

About five years ago I recommitted my life to him completely and have done everything for him I can. I can not describe the indescribable peace and joy I have felt in my life lately. I would not go back to my old ways for nothing. I don’t necessarily strive for myself but the blessings just keep coming.

He really does want to bless us. He is good, good, good. He is always at work night and day for my good. Watching out for me. He never rests. He will never leave me. When rough days come and they will. He will be right there holding my hand and helping me through them.

Blessings or curses? The choice is all up to you.

The Wages of Sin

The wages of sin is still death. God never changes. He is the same yesterday, today and forever. You can’t expect to get a get out of sin card free no matter what. The gift of God is a free gift and God will never leave you or forsake, but you can leave. It is a thing called free will. You can’t expect to get into heaven just by doing your own thing. God has promised to forgive your sins. Have you asked him to lately.

“God is light; in him there is no darkness at all. If we claim to have fellowship with him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live out the truth. But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, We have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his son, purifies us from all sin.” 1 John 1:5-7. NIV

I believe I saw an ‘IF’ in there. If we walk in the light. So how we act is important. We no longer sin or if we do we sincerely ask forgiveness for that sin and promise never to do it again, and mean it. We can’t get by with habitually sinning and expect him to overlook it. At some point God will leave you to your own desires that rule over you.

“If you love me, keep my commandments.” John 14:15. NIV

“Whoever claims to live in him must live as Jesus did.” 1 John 2:6. NIV

Jesus did not sin. Although we all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. We have hope. We a talking about trying to live a sin free life. A life of integrity. Trying to do all he wants us to and truly loving him and others. Not doing the things we know he does not want us to.

It sounds like hard work. But he will give us strength when we are week and help us turn from sin if we ask. He has given us everything to help us the minute we believe on him and ask his forgiveness. He loves all of his children and is always drawing you to the light.

He has also promised to bless us many ways in his word. You can actually live a blessed life by following his commands. A win win situation. Eternal life in heaven and extra blessings. How awesome. Reading his word helps to know his will for your life. How can you know his commands if you don’t read?

Practice the ACTS of prayer. Adoration, confession, Thanksgiving, and supplication.

This is a good tool for prayer. Tithing is the one way God asks us to test him. You can not out give God just try. Helping those in need. And fellowshiping together. These all bring blessing to your life.

“Now that you know these things, you will be blessed if you do them.” John 13:17 NIV

Go out there and enjoy doing the things that will get you to heaven and bless you.
