Hope

“For in this hope we were saved. But hope that is seen is no hope at all. Who hopes for what they already have? For if we hope for what we do not have, we wait for it patiently .” Romans 8:24&25

Hope is not something we already have or just wishful thinking that we might have it. But hope is a lot like faith because we know it’s ours in Jesus Christ our Lord. To look forward to with desire and confidence.

“In his name the nation’s will put their hope.” Matthew 12:21

Jesus is definitely something we can put our hope in. He died for the sins we have committed. We were lost and hopeless but he has given us hope.

You will be secure, because there is hope: you will look about you and take your rest in safety.” Job 11:18

Now we can rest in him. He has done the work, and he is continually working. Each day he is already ahead of us Everything is prepared for our brand new day. Divine appointments are already set up for us to meet and enjoy just who he has put in our paths. Everything is for our best. We need to make the very best we can of today.

“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him. So that you may overflow by the power of the Holy Spirit..”. Romans 15:13

He has given us the power and strength for today. He’s given us words to speak life. His Spirit will guide and direct us as we trust in him.

“Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.” Romans 12:12

Joy is something you choose. Just like choosing sadness or defeat. Make joy a choice you make the minute you open your eyes in the morning God has given you this new day just by waking you up. Go and make it the best day that you can.

“For everything that was written in the past was written to teach us, so that through the endurance taught in the scriptures and the encouragement they provide we might have hope.” Romans 15:4

Notice how many times you see the word WILL in these verses. God knew how important hope is. He is trying to show us that it is not just possible, but guaranteed. If you will search for him you are guaranteed to find peace and joy. So many promises our ours if we just trust him. Don’t just trust but rest in that trust and see it happening.

“And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.” Romans 5:5

When we have the hope of Jesus in our lives we want others to know it too. Others may not believe us, but we can hold securely to that hope because Jesus will never let us down. One day all will know the truth.

“And we boast in the hope of the glory of God.” Romans 5:2

So when you boast, boast in him who is worthy and share with all you can.

“God did this so that, by two unchangeable things in which it is impossible for God to lie, we who have fled to take hold of hope set before us may be greatly encouraged.” Hebrews 6:18

History has proven so much of the Bible. Historical facts are provable. Beyond that the Bible has proven true based on thousands of prophecies that have come to pass in exact detail and these words prove themselves true. His promises never fail.

“Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful.” Hebrews 10:23

When I was young my grandfather, a Baptist minister, told me the Bible was completely true and could be believed. The more I believed and did what it said the better my life became. I could see God working.

Trust in the Lord, he is trustworthy. At times when I have had to wait it is hard. Especially because I need help to do most of my personal needs and need my caregiver. They do get busy with others. God wants me to wait patiently. I will get good help when they are free. God will see to it.

“Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.” 1 Peter 1:3

Jesus was raised to life and is now living in heaven at the right hand of God. Now I can know for sure that when I die I will be raised to life to be with him forever in heaven.

I can totally rest in my God knowing that nothing can separate me from him. One day I will be with him forever.

“All who have this hope in him purify themselves, just as he is pure.” 1 John 3:3

All we need to get to heaven is faith. To believe he meant what he said, that we could come to him and he would forgive us for everything. No limitations. Once we believe we are purified and God sees us just like our King Jesus, perfect.

Be Light

“And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light.” Genesis 1:3 NIV

This one short phrase says so much. In the very beginning All was dark and there was nothing. When God said this He was well aware of our need for him. In the beginning he walked in the garden with the man and woman, sharing all he had with them. It was never about us, but everything He can do for us. He made a perfect garden, far better than any man could create. The animals he created are so beautiful and so unique, but every one of them has a purpose in this world. They are made just for the environment they live in. Whether it is warm or cold. Flat or rocky, wet or dry. I do not know how you can look at some of these wonders and not think about their creator. Jesus is the light of the world and God is light, in him there is no darkness. Without him there would be nothing. Contrary to many so called wise men, who say, “ the earth just happened in all its unique perfection and purpose.” That is so far from anything that has ever happened before and so hard to prove. We all know man is not perfect but guessing at life is hard to believe. The light of the world spoke and things happened. Amazing and wonderful things happened. Their ability for greatness and wisdom are so evident. Everything was taken into consideration. How would the plants be watered? What would we eat? In the very beginning the world was perfect. Man didn’t need clothes because the climate was moderate. Everyone, including animals ate plants and there was no death. Everything they could ever want or need was included. God has called us to be his light to the world. We are anxiously awaiting Jesus,s great return. But he is waiting for his church to stand up and be this light and be victorious. He has called us to be salt, the flavor and purifier this world needs. So many people have become complacent, thinking that the world will just get worse and it’s too late. But Jesus said continue to tell the world about him until he comes again in his glory. Tomorrow you just might change someone’s way of thinking by the love you share and they will be saved. If we just give up, who knows how many people could be saved. It can be something very simple that finally gets through to them, so continue to speak hope and love. So many people don’t know that they are loved and are important. We should never stop being light because this is a dark time. Even some who call themselves Christians just do not know the hope set before us.

What can you do to be light?

Hope

“I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people.” Ephesians 1:18 NIV

I heard a pastor tell a story recently that has stayed with me. He was flying to a conference where he was supposed to speak. As he got on the plane he said a little prayer. Lord, help me to have a quiet trip so I can rest before this conference. He got comfortable and tried to get some rest, closing his eyes. At the very last minute a guy sat down next to him. He thought, maybe if I pretend to be asleep he won’t bother me. The man squirmed and squirmed next to him but he finally dozed off. Then all of a sudden the man elbows him in the ribs, “hey, you awake?” “Well ya, I am now.” “So what kind of work do you do?” He asked. This minister thought for a minute. Well, maybe I should just lie and make up something dull, but no I can’t. “I’m a minister.” He said. Well the man just broke down sobbing. Everyone on the flight heard him blubbering. It seems he was coming from the funeral of his very best friend who had died suddenly from a massive heart attack. He had come home from work one day and met his little girl and picked her up. He collapsed dropping the girl. He went on about how shocked everyone had been, how he would never see him again, and he would never get to share life with him. How could he go on from here. This all poured out of him in loud hysterical sobbing. It seemed like everyone on board was staring. “Well I’m sorry for your loss,” he said. This man was really grieving and he didn’t really know what to say. He had absolutely no hope. He was miserable. “You know what you need?”, I said. You really need some hope in your heart. The man gazed questioningly at me, how? So I told him all about the gospel message and how Jesus loved him and wanted to be his friend. The man stopped me and said, “but I’m Jewish.” I said, “that’s ok Jesus was Jewish and he love’s Jews.” The man thought about it and then said ok. They talked through the entire flight. As they deboarded I told him to have a great day and went to get my bags. The man ran after me and fell to his knees hanging onto me. “But wait, I want this hope, don’t leave now.” Everyone was looking at them strangely. I just wanted to get my bag and go. I walked the man to a nearby bench and explained to him that I had told him everything he needed to know. But the man begged. So I asked if he would like to pray? They went through the sinners prayer and I helped him ask Jesus into his heart. He was so excited and exploding with joy. He couldn’t say thanks enough. You see this minister just wanted a nap but God had a divine encounter planned that would change both of their lives. God may not always give us what we ask but they became good friends . We who know Jesus know hope. Without Jesus there is no hope.

Do you know this hope?
