“Do what is right and good in the Lord’s sight, so that it may go well with you and you may go in and take over the good land the Lord promised to your ancestors.” Deuteronomy 6:18
He’s promised to do everything for our best, always. We should want to do the next right and good thing because it truly is for our best.
“And if we are careful to obey all of this law before the Lord our God, as he has commanded us, that will be our righteousness.” Deuteronomy 6:25
Doing the right thing leads to our righteousness. One thing at a time, little by little.
“Know therefore that the Lord your God is God, he is the faithful God, keeping his covenant of love to a thousand generations of those who love him and keep his commandments.” Deuteronomy 7:9
If we do our part, he will always take care of us. Even if we don’t, he is faithful he continues to love us and take care of us.
“See, I set before you today life and prosperity, death and destruction.” Deuteronomy 30:15
Right here God lays it all out. Do you want good in your life? Well here is the answer. Want to be prosperous? God tells us how.
“Be strong and very courageous. Be careful to obey all the law my servant Moses gave you; do not turn from it to the right or to the left, that you may be successful wherever you go. Keep this book of the law on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful. Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” Joshua 1:7-9
God laid it all out for Joshua. First he encouraged him, then he told him just what to do to be successful. He then tells him how to go about it. Taking over Moses job was a daunting task. Especially at his age. But God gave him the strength of a young man. Then he explained that this was a command. If this people were going to go forward and defeat their enemies they would have to follow instructions. He even told him why. Because I am with you always! You are not doing this alone.
“They said to Joshua, “the Lord has surely given the whole land into our hands; all the people are melting with fear because of us.” Joshua 2:24
God is a God who fights our battles. He has a history of faithfulness. He also has an actual recorded history. These are facts that actually happened. The people were terrified of God’s chosen people. They had heard all the stories of what had happened and they were worried.
“So the sun stood still, and the moon stopped, till the nation avenged itself of its enemies, as it is written in the book of Jashar. The sun stopped in the middle of the sky and delayed going down about a full day.” Joshua 10:24
This is another amazing story. I’m sure it can be proven by astronomers. The sun stopped! It stayed daytime till all their enemies were defeated. That didn’t just happen. It never happened before or since. God is good to have on your side.
“Joshua said to them, “Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged. Be strong and courageous. This is what the Lord will do to all the enemies you are going to fight.” Joshua 10:25
Joshua encouraged the people the same way he was encouraged. It was God who was fighting for them and he would be with them just as he is with us. Whatever you are fighting today God is ready to takeover. He will win.
“Then you crossed the Jordan and came to Jericho , the citizens of Jericho fought against you, as did also the Amorite’s, Perizzites, Canaanites, Hittites, Gergashites, Hivites, and Jebusites. But I gave them into your hand.” Joshua 24:11
They were up against strong and valiant enemies who fought. Every town fought them but it was a loosing battle and they knew it. They knew of this God. News traveled fast even 2000 years ago. If God was so well known why did everyone worship other Gods?? God brought them into this good land and he fought for them. It was not their strength it was God’s. They inhabited homes and lands that God gave them. Crops they didn’t plant and many good things were given to them.
